Dr. Lyn Lewis
Dr. Thomas “Lyn” Lewis, Jr. is from coastal Beaufort, South Carolina. He attended Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. for his Bachelor of Science in Biology, where he graduated with honors. In his 4 years there he played college tennis and was nationally ranked his senior season. In 1998, he began Veterinary School at the University of Georgia. In 2002, Dr. Lewis had the pleasure of presenting his grandfather, Dr. George Radford, his 50 year medallion honoring his graduation from UGA College of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. Soon after graduation in 2002, he started his career at Appalachian Animal Hospital in Ellijay, GA. He quickly became a partner and then purchased the hospital outright in 2008. In 2009 Dr. Lewis purchased Wayside Animal Hospital from Dr. Mike McGhee. By 2011, Dr. Lewis sold Appalachian Animal Hospital and focused his full energy into serving Pickens County and Wayside Animal Hospital. Dr. Lewis has extensive experience with both dogs and cats but has also worked with Gorillas, Kangaroos, Raptors, Cougars, Black Bear, and other wildlife. He loves internal medicine, dermatology, and has specialized training in physical therapy / rehabilitation. However he especially loves spending time with our clients in both the exam rooms and the lobby. Dr. Lewis has authored over 100 articles for various newspapers such as the Pickens Progress and the Ellijay Times Courier. Dr. Lewis stays active in the community with his involvement in the Pickens Chamber of Commerce, he works with local classrooms, and with the Youth Apprenticeship Program hiring high school students each year with a passion for Veterinary Medicine. He is the Founder and serves on the Board for the Mountain Emergency Animal Center, an after-hours veterinary hospital in Blue Ridge, GA. In his spare time, Dr. Lewis loves playing tennis, spending time with his wife Kristen and their children Addison and Patrick.

Dr. Kristen Parker
Dr. Parker graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2006. She started practicing at Appalachian Animal Hospital in Ellijay immediately upon graduating. She also worked part time at North Georgia Animal Emergency Hospital (now Mountain Emergency Animal Hospital) for several years. Dr. Parker provided relief veterinary service for Wayside Animal Hospital for a couple of years and officially joined the team in August 2010. She has a special interest in surgery with extensive training in wound repairs, orthopedic surgery and dentistry, and she is one of the only Veterinarians to perform TTA Surgeries in North Georgia. Dr. Parker was blessed with a son, Raylan, in 2013 and spends the majority of her time off with him and her husband, Will. Her dog, Deuce, and 2 cats, Thomas and Cache, are still trying to adjust. When she gets the chance, she enjoys hiking, fishing, running 5k’s (for charity and for fun) and rock climbing.

Kristen Lewis graduated Magna Cum Laude from Piedmont College with a BA in Sociology in 1999 and a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 2000 with top honors. She began her career in Public Administration in 2001 as the Executive Director of a tri-county child advocacy center. Kristen is married to Dr. Lyn Lewis and they have two children, Addison and Patrick. Kristen began working in the veterinary field in 2004 when she and Dr. Lewis first bought into Appalachian Animal Hospital in Ellijay, GA. With experience in administration, Kristen began focusing on learning the veterinary management side, while Dr. Lewis maintained focused on providing high quality medicine. In 2008, they became the sole owners of Appalachian Animal Hospital, together leading a five doctor practice with approximately 25 support staff. Then, in 2009, they purchased a second practice, Wayside Animal Hospital in Jasper, GA. In 2010, she assisted Dr. Lewis as he became the Founder of the North Georgia Animal Emergency Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA, now called Mountain Emergency Animal Center. Together, she and Dr. Lewis won the UGA Top 100 Fastest Growing Business Award for their success with Appalachian Animal Hospital. Later, in 2010, Dr. Lewis and Kristen sold Appalachian Animal Hospital to focus primarily on Wayside and the Pickens County community. Then in 2015, Wayside Animal Hospital was named Small Business of the Year for Pickens County. Later that same year, Kristen worked behind the scenes to open a satellite office called Wayside Animal Hospital at Foothills in Marble Hill, GA. Since then, Kristen continues full time as the Hospital Administrator of the 2 locations, while still consulting on a management basis with the emergency hospital as needed. Kristen has served on the State Board of Directors for Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia for 3 years, along with the State Advisory Board for 3 years. She is a member of the Piedmont Torch Club, and she also received the Piedmont College Pacesetter Award in 2009. In her free time, Kristen enjoys volunteering at her children’s school, volunteer coaching, helping local charities, boating, swimming, and spending time with her children, family, pets, and friends.

Lori graduated from the University of Georgia in 2009 with a BSA in Agribusiness. She has a strong agricultural background, growing up on a small family farm in Ellijay and has always worked with animals. She worked at Appalachian Animal Hospital in Ellijay from 2004-2007 and worked at Flat Rock Koi, a Koi farm just outside of Athens, that also worked with the fish medicine program with the UGA Vet School from 2007-2009. Upon graduation, she then joined the team here at Wayside in 2009. Lori has served on the Advisory Sub-Committee for the Pickens High School Career, Technical and Agricultural Education program for 3 years now, which works with the Work Base Learning Program as well as the Youth Apprenticeship Program with the students. She completed the Pickens County Chamber Leadership Program in 2013. In 2014, Lori completed the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk with Dr. Parker and has since started training for 5k charity runs. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, photography, reading, running and spending time with her husband, Richard, her 2 dogs, Skizzo and Molly, and 2 cats, Taz and Tron.

Torrie was born in Columbus, GA. She lived in Florida for a few years as a child and then moved back to South Georgia. In 1989, she moved to Jasper and graduated from Pickens High School in 1991. She has been married to her husband, Benny, since 1994. Together, they have three boys: Seth, 16, Connor, 13, and Grant, 10. Torrie has been part of the Wayside team longer than any other employee and will celebrate her 20 year anniversary with Wayside in August of 2015. She has seen a lot of changes over the years, but one thing remains the same: people truly love their furry babies.

Keisha has been a team member at Wayside since 2005. She has an interest in pet dentistry and became one of our dental technicians in 2012. In November 2015, she moved over to our Foothills location full time to help with the opening of that practice and is now primarily at our Jasper location. She enjoys working with animals and helps foster and adopt out pets in need. She has 3 dogs and 4 cats of her own. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, and their twin girls, Jenna and Olivia. When she is not spending time with her family or helping animals, she likes to read, watch football and enjoys going to church with her family.

Bobbie Jo Cash
Bobbie Jo joined the team in 2009 as a Receptionist at our Jasper location. She is now the receptionist at our Foothills Location, joining the team there when we first opened June of 2015. She enjoys being a part of the Wayside team because every day is an opportunity to help people who share her love of helping animals. She loves all kinds of animals but has a special soft spot for Boxers. She thinks their sloppy, drooling kisses and goofy looking under bites are adorable! Bobbie Jo holds a degree in Accounting as well as Business and is a lifetime resident of Gilmer County, where she still resides with her son, Christian, and her two dogs Kya (a boxer of course) and Dade (a special blend). In her time away from Wayside, her favorite thing to do is watch her son in whichever sport is currently in season; whether it be baseball, football, swimming or wrestling. She also enjoys hiking, running, camping, reading and being a part of the community. Bobbie Jo is a member of the 2014-2015 Pickens Leadership Program and is excited to be learning about the great community of Pickens County and all of its caring and kind citizens.

Sarah Goss Wright
Sarah has been attending Veterinary Technician classes at Penn Foster Online College. She joined our team as a veterinary assistant 4 years ago, and became one of our dental technicians 3 years ago. She has 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse, 1 rabbit, 1 tortoise, and 1 fish. In her spare time, she likes to go hiking, swimming, rock climbing, running, horseback riding and spending time at the barn with her horse, Rodeo.

Rebecca graduated from Cobb County Christian High School in 1999. She moved to Jasper from Acworth with her husband and 2 children in 2010. Rebecca’s hobbies include scrapbooking, making cards, primitive camping and reading – especially science fiction and fantasy. She was a pre-school teacher in Kennesaw until she had the opportunity to join our team as a receptionist in 2013. She has 1 dog, Dudley, and 2 cats, Ava and Hobo.

Hayley is from Norcross, Georgia. She grew up showing performance horses in the AQHA and NRHA show circuits. After graduating high school she went to Piedmont Technical College in South Carolina for a degree as a Veterinary Technician. While she was in school she worked and did internships with several small and large animal clinics. She moved to Plainville, Georgia after school to work with a longtime friend and basically other mother who is a horse trainer/AQHA, NRHA, NCHA world title judge, training two and three-year-old horses to be performance horses and was the Barn Manager. She has reining and cow horses and has also gotten into the roping world. Her and her longtime boyfriend love to spend their weekends working cattle, at a USTRC roping or horse shows. She loves small animal medicine but also loves large animal medicine. She has cows, horses, and three dogs. She breeds Blue Heelers for cattle working purposes and loves working dogs. She is excited to be on this team and learn as much as she can.

Tyla was born and raised in the Dawsonville/Jasper area. She graduated from Dawson County High School in 2010. She has a 2 year old daughter named Caroline and also has one dog named Wedge. In her free time, she enjoys taking her daughter and Wedge to the park to play, going swimming, hiking and really enjoys watching movies. She joined our team in 2015 as a veterinary assistant and is also one of our dental assistants.
