Dr. Michael Zager is local to Ellijay, GA and was only one week out of veterinary school when he started practicing veterinary medicine, establishing roots in Georgia’s apple country. He graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979 with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After a decade of practicing, Dr. Zager expanded his expertise to include camelids, first working with llamas and later with alpacas. He is a much sought-after speaker in the field and is recognized throughout the Southeast as a veterinary resource for these animals. Wayside Animal Hospital is lucky to have his knowledge and expertise as part of our team! Through his practice, Dr. Zager provides mentoring and learning opportunities for Wayside’s veterinary students, UGA’s veterinary students, and he has been an active participant in bolstering legislative support for not only UGA in many ways, but also for the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Zager is a wealth of knowledge from small to large animals and he is available for farm calls at our Ellijay location. Dr. Zager is an active member of his church and has participated in at least five mission trips to Haiti where he has treated animals that had never previously seen a veterinarian. He and his wife are the parents of two daughters, both of whom also became UGA Bulldogs.
