Emergency & Critical Care for Pets

When your pet or livestock faces an urgent health crisis, you need a veterinary team you can trust. Wayside Animal Hospital offers emergency veterinary care and critical care services for dogs, cats, and farm animals in Jasper, Ellijay, Marble Hill (Foothills), and the surrounding North Georgia region. Our veterinarians and staff respond quickly with skilled, compassionate treatment — because in an emergency, every minute matters.

Urgent Pet Care When Every Minute Counts

Emergencies don’t wait for convenience. From sudden illnesses in cats to injuries in active dogs, our Jasper and Marble Hill (Foothills) hospitals are fully equipped to handle small-animal emergencies. Our veterinary team works quickly to stabilize sick or injured pets, provide pain relief, and deliver diagnostic testing when time is of the essence. Pet parents often share how much they appreciate our clear communication, frequent updates, and genuine compassion during stressful situations.

Comprehensive Emergency Veterinary Services

We are prepared to diagnose and treat a wide range of urgent and emergency conditions, including:

  • Severe vomiting, diarrhea, or refusal to eat
  • Breathing difficulties, collapse, or fainting
  • Seizures or sudden weakness
  • Accidental toxin ingestion
  • Traumatic injuries such as wounds, fractures, or lacerations
  • Complicated labor or birthing emergencies (dystocia) in livestock

With in-house diagnostics, including bloodwork, radiology, and ultrasound, along with the ability to perform emergency surgery and hospitalization, we provide critical care for pets with a focus on safety, comfort, and medical excellence. For cases requiring advanced imaging or surgical intervention, we may also recommend our Surgery & X-Rays services for dogs and cats.

Emergency Services for Large Animals

As a mixed-animal practice, Wayside is also a trusted resource for urgent farm animal care. Our Ellijay location serves as the hub for large animal veterinary emergencies, offering on-site farm calls and haul-in services. Our veterinarians treat a wide range of livestock, including cattle, horses, goats, sheep, alpacas, and other large animals. We are experienced in urgent situations such as birthing complications, injuries, lameness evaluations, and herd health crises. While Jasper may occasionally assist with small ruminant emergencies, Marble Hill (Foothills) focuses primarily on companion animal cases.
